I don’t really like homemade brownies.  I love how the box mix is chewy with that glossy top and slightly crunchy edges.  When I make them from scratch, I don’t seem to be able to replicate that….until I found this recipe.  It was a hit so I’m sharing it with you this Valentine’s Week!!  Quick note — Mine were very dark because I used black cocoa powder, so don’t be surprised if yours look more brown than black. Mom's Chocolate Pudding www.slipnotdesigns.wordpress.com

I adore Valentine’s Day.  I decorate my house in reds and pinks and make delicious chocolate desserts.  Don’t you just love love?!  So this week, I’m dedicating my blog to Valentine’s Day Chocolate Indulgences!!!  Doesn’t that sound decadent?  I’m kicking it off with a recipe I grew up with.  I love that a simple taste of pudding can bring me back to childhood.  I had not made this recipe in years.  But the second the spoon hit my lips, I was instantly transported back to 5 year old Joelle.  I have fond memories of made from scratch treats that my Mom made and I love to think that my kids might grow up to have similar feelings of childhood when they eat those same things!  So here is my Mom’s chocolate pudding recipe.  I bet you have all these ingredients in your house right now.  Go make it!  And please invite people over to share it with you….the guilt of eating cup after cup yourself is just too much!

No Sew Valenting Bunting www.slipnotdesigns.wordpress.com

Remember this blog post where I taught you how to make the cute yarn Love sign?  Well, here’s a short tutorial on the half round bunting I hung with it!  This cost me nothing because I had everything on hand.  I just chose fabrics that coordinated, dug out some jute twine, and reused the Wonder Under from my son’s Birthday shirt.  You can find Wonder Under in the part of the fabric store that sells interfacing.  The people who work there can direct you to it!  Also, you don’t need to use twine.  String, yarn, baker’s twine, or very thin ribbon would all work fine.   Continue reading

We have a group of 3 couples that have been friends for over 15 years.  In our pre-kids days, our favorite dinner to make together was appetizers.  Over the years, the appetizers we made morphed.  This was one that was added a few years ago and has been a hit ever since!  Everywhere I take this, I always have people ask for the recipe.  It’s creamy and bubbly and warm and delicious…and it’s the perfect appetizer to make for the Superbowl.  You can have it made up in advance and throw it in the oven at half time for some new munchies in the second half of the game!  Continue reading

What is a Superbowl Party without salsa?  Salsa from a jar is ok, but using your own fresh ingredients really kicks up the flavor profile and impresses your guests!  So here’s the salsa recipe that’s passed on through my family in Southern California.  It’s authentic! Continue reading

Everything chicken tenders. www.slipnotdesigns.wordpress.com

I love everything bagels.  But since I have started being a Trim Healthy Mama, bagels are a thing of the past.  However, these chicken tenders give me those same delicious flavors without the belly bulging carb count!  I saw Rachael Ray make these years ago and loved them way back when.  I was thinking that with all the incredibly high fat items that are usually found at Super Bowl parties, this would be an awesome lower fat, no carb option for those of us not wanting to indulge so much! BBQ Sloppy Joe www.slipnotdesigns.wordpress.com

One of the super fun things about having a new baby is that all the people you love shower you with meals so you can adjust to your new family.  When my first child was born over 10 years ago, a couple from our Sunday School class brought this sloppy joe recipe to us.  It was so cute – in a basket with buns and chips, brownies and bottles of pop, plus all the paper goods we needed for dinner!  All we had to do is heat it up when we were ready to eat.  It was so delicious that I still make this recipe for my family and also when I need to bring a meal to others. Show your family some love with this amazing carmel corn!

Carmel Corn - www.slipnotdesigns.wordpress.comYou know those things you have loved since childhood that just stick with you–the meals you grew up having, or the treats your mom made?  I love to carry those things on to my kids and have them share those warm, cozy memories!  This sweet treat is one of them.  We always called it carmel corn growing up, but as an adult, I see it more as a rice krispie treat meets carmel corn.  It gets eaten immediately, so it’s gooey and warm and marshmallowy.  But it has that yummy carmel taste.
